Peter Mckinnon Recon Matte Box System

If you're a filmmaker, you know how important it is to control the light that enters your lens. And that's exactly what this matte box does! It's a frame that you attach to your lens to block out unwanted light, which can help reduce lens flare and improve the overall image quality of your shots.

But what makes the Recon stand out is its 2 stage filter system and how lightweight it is. plus You don’t need to use this matt box with a rail system that can add extra weight to your rig. With the recon you can block out light using the flag and add different filters to get different effects in your footage. The Recon is also super durable and easy to install and remove, so you won't be held up during filming.

And if you go for the Director's Kit, you'll get two stage 2 filters - I went for a mist filter and a blue morphic filter. The mist filter adds a dreamy, hazy look to your shots, By blooming the highlights, it can also make your clips less digital and more like it was shot on film. Who doesn't wanna make their footage cinematic right?

If you're not familiar with the Bluemorphic filter, it adds anamorphic-style blue flares to your scene without the need for stylized cinema lenses. The filter mimics the anamorphic streak flare effect, causing streaks on bright light sources or reflections in the scene.

Knocked up this little Stranger things inspired scene quickly to give it a little test to see what it’s like.

The results I've gotten with the Bluemorphic filter have been really impressive. Not something I’d use all the time as it can be over baring in the wrong situations. But very cool none the less.

Both of these filters are made of high-quality glass and have a solid metal frame, so they feel really well-made and durable. Plus they clip very easily to the front of the Variable ND filter. You don't even have to use the matte box to a rig the 2 stage filter system up either. Very tempted to grab some more filters to have even more options at my disposal. Maybe I’ll give my bank balance a little break for awhile though.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Recon Matte Box System, The slightly more expensive Director edition (That comes with the extra filters) to any Filmmaker looking to up their game. It's a quality product that delivers some impressive results.

So if you're ready to take your photography to the next level, be sure to check out this lightweight Recon Matte Box System.
