3D Printed Desk Accessories That Transformed My Setup (Bambu Lab A1)

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been upgrading my desk setup using one tool that’s quickly become essential — my 3D printer.

I’m using the Bambu Lab A1, which I’ve recommended before as one of the best entry-to-mid-level 3D printers right now. Even without the AMS system (which I definitely wish I had in hindsight), it’s been incredibly reliable and easy to use.

This wasn’t about one big transformation.

It was about solving small problems — one print at a time.

And that’s what made the biggest difference.

Why 3D Printed Desk Accessories Are Worth It

If you’re a filmmaker, designer, or creative, your desk setup directly affects how you work.

Small inefficiencies add up:

  • Clutter kills focus

  • Poor ergonomics slow you down

  • Constant adjustments break flow

3D printing lets you design solutions specifically for your workflow, instead of forcing your workflow to fit generic products.

My Desk Setup (Before & After)

My base setup is simple:

  • IKEA Alex drawers

  • Wooden worktop

  • Clean, minimal layout

But it had issues:

  • Monitor too low

  • Accessories everywhere

  • Wasted desk space

So I started fixing things.

Best 3D Printed Desk Accessories I Made

1. Custom Monitor Riser (IKEA Hack)

Instead of buying something generic, I built a custom riser using an IKEA Billy shelf with 3D printed legs.

Result:

  • Perfect eye-level positioning

  • Clean aesthetic

  • No wobble

2. MagSafe Charger Desk Mount

This clamps neatly onto the desk riser and holds my phone in place while charging.

Why it works:

  • Keeps the desk surface clear

  • Always within reach

  • No messy cables

3. Keyboard Dock (Keychron K2)

This one’s a game changer for workflow.

When I need space (filming, editing, sculpting), the keyboard slides underneath the desk.

Instant benefits:

  • More usable workspace

  • Cleaner setup

  • Faster transitions between tasks

4. Headphone Stand + LED Desk Lamp

A dual-purpose print using a Bambu Lab LED kit.

This does two things:

  • Stores headphones neatly

  • Adds soft ambient lighting

It’s functional and adds atmosphere — which matters more than people think.

5. Gridfinity Drawer System (Ultimate Organisation)

This is where things got slightly obsessive.

I built a full Gridfinity system (created by Zack Freedman) inside my IKEA Alex drawers.

Now:

  • Every tool has a place

  • No more digging around

  • Drawers feel clean and intentional

If you haven’t tried Gridfinity yet… be careful. It’s addictive.

6. Small Prints That Make a Huge Difference

Some of the simplest prints ended up being the most useful:

These are the kinds of prints that quietly improve your day.

The Real Benefit: Removing Friction

None of these upgrades are huge individually.

But together?

They remove friction.

  • No more searching for gear

  • No more clearing space constantly

  • No more messy cables or clutter

When your setup works with you:

  • You sit down faster

  • You focus quicker

  • You create more

Why the Bambu Lab A1 Makes This Easy

The biggest reason I’ve been able to do all this consistently is how easy the printer is to use.

The Bambu Lab A1 is:

  • Reliable

  • Beginner-friendly

  • Fast to set up and run

Even without the AMS, it’s been one of the most stress-free bits of kit in my workflow.

What I’m Printing Next

This is just the start.

Next upgrades:

  • Cable management systems

  • More Gridfinity expansions

  • Custom mounts

  • Lighting tweaks

Final Thoughts

3D printing isn’t just about making things.

It’s about building a workspace that actually supports how you work.

And once you start… it’s very hard to stop.
